If I give my poodle-maltese mix distilled water will she get dark spots under her eyes?

Someone told me if I only let my poodle-maltese mix drink distilled water that the area around her eyes will stay white and not get stained because it is the iron in tap water that causes the marks. Is this true? Is it safe to give my dog only distilled water?
